Using Power Management on the VG814

Objective:

Configure and manage power settings on the VG814 to optimize its operation and energy efficiency.

Requirements:
  • VG814 device
  • Access to the VG814 web management interface

Steps:
  1. Access the VG814 Web Interface:

    • Connect your computer to the VG814 network.
    • Open a web browser and enter the VG814’s IP address to access the web management interface.
    • Log in using the default or your custom credentials. The default username is usually adm and the default password is 123456.
  2. Navigate to Power Management Settings:

    • Once logged in, navigate to the System Settings or Power Management menu. The exact naming can vary depending on the firmware version.
  3. Configure Power-Off Delay:

    • In the power management settings, locate the Power-Off Delay option.
    • Enter the desired delay time in seconds. This setting controls how long the VG814 waits after a power failure before it completely shuts down. For example, setting it to 30 seconds means the device will continue operating for 30 seconds after losing power, allowing for safe shutdown of processes.
  4. Enable Standby Mode:

    • Find the Standby Mode setting. This option allows the device to enter a low-power state when not in active use.
    • Enable this feature and set the Standby Check Interval. This is the frequency, in seconds, at which the VG814 checks whether it should enter or exit standby mode based on network activity or other criteria.
    • Configure Standby Threshold Voltage and Standby Resume Voltage:
      • Standby Threshold Voltage: Set the voltage level that triggers the device to enter standby mode. For example, 9V.
      • Standby Resume Voltage: Set the voltage level at which the device should resume normal operation from standby mode. Typically, this should be higher than the threshold voltage to prevent frequent switching, e.g., 10.5V.
  5. Save and Apply Settings:

    • After configuring the settings, ensure to save and apply the changes. This might require the device to reboot.
  6. Test the Configuration:

    • To test the power-off delay, simulate a power failure and observe if the device shuts down after the set delay.
    • For standby mode, monitor the device under normal operating conditions to see if it enters and exits standby mode as expected based on the voltage levels and activity.

Additional Tips:
  • Regularly update your device firmware to ensure compatibility with the latest features and security updates.
  • Monitor the device’s performance and power logs to optimize settings further based on actual usage patterns.
